Launching Leaders
A leadership program for girls ages 14-16
Thanks to generous grant funding, Green Mountain Camp is able to offer Launching Leaders as a tuition-free program for girls (including female-identifying and non-binary individuals) ages 14-16. It is a Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program, plus more, offering tangible takeaways for participants.

Launching Leaders have often been campers at GMC throughout their younger years, although anyone interested is invited to apply regardless of whether it will be their first time at camp! Launching Leaders depart from the summer with service hours, certifications, achievements, and newly acquired skills that are meaningful to the world outside of camp.

They are trained in CPR and First Aid, with the option of starting Lifeguard Certification training. We offer guidance through paired mentorship and emphasize teamwork in collaboration with the GMC staff, while also providing each Launching Leaders cohort activities specifically designed for them. Women leaders from the greater community come to camp to facilitate workshops for Launching Leaders with diverse topics such as: healthy body image, social justice, poetry, wood-working, belly dancing, and more!

Participants are offered space for learning, confidence-building, and practicing leadership skills. They have regular time to connect with each other, and with their mentors and supervisors. They become positive role models for younger campers, and many go on to become paid staff once they reach age 16 (and up). Launching Leaders make a difference in campers’ lives and shape the spirit of camp while enriching their own lives over the summer and beyond.
